Pages Critique

The cover page of the January 26, 2010 issue seemed a bit confusing. The photo takes up alot of the page and then there seems to be no real article on it except for the cutline below the photo. So it was kind of misleading. It is nice to show that Washington has planned to help Haiti. Also the column on the right side was bothering to my eyes. The titles of the two articles were not placed that nicely. “Horizontal shapes are pleasing to the eye. And they often create the illusion that stories are shorter than they really are.” (Harrower 49.) Maybe it would have been better to make them horiztonal on the page instead of vertical.

In the March 2, 2010 issue of The Hatchet on page 8 of the A&E section; it could have used some work. One thing that particularly bothered me was that there was no cut off rule abouve the Bandapoolza article. Without it, it seems to blend into the talent show article. Also for the article on Max Lerch; I think they could have found a better picture of just Max since the article is just about him. Also, since Chaterjee was already displayed on the front cover and in plenty of other photos in past issues. The photo is also very blurry. “There’s nothing like a photograph to give a newspaper motion and emotion” (Harrower 28).  On a postive note, I love the photo of Riva at the top of the page. It’s flattering and gives the page dimension.
